1. Love is a serious mental disease.

Mental disease: [mɛntl dɪˈziːz] any disease of the mind; the psychological state of someone who has emotional or behavioral problems serious enough to require psychiatric intervention;

2. The god of love lives in a state of need. It is a need. It is an urge. It is a homeostatic imbalance. Like hunger and thirst, it's almost impossible to stamp out.

Need: [niːd] n.

Urge: [ɜːdʒ] n.

Imbalance: [ɪm'bæləns] n.

Thirst: [θɜːst] n. 口渴

3. To love rightly is to love what is orderly and beautiful in an educated and disciplined way.

Educate: [ˈɛdju:keɪt] v. give intellectual, moral, and social instruction to (sb. esp. a child), typically at a school or a university

Discipline: [ˈdɪsɪplɪn] v. develop (children's) behavior by instruction and practice; especially to teach self-control

Orderly: [ˈɔːdəli] adj. arranged or organized in a neat, careful and logical way

Beautiful: [ˈbjuːtəfʊl] adj. delighting the senses or exciting intellectual or emotional admiration

4. Love is the joy of the good, the wonder of the wise, the amazement of the Gods.

按照句式结构来看,the good, the wise 和the Gods是并列关系。所以,the good 和 the wise 应理解为两类人。

Wisdom begins in wonder.

Amazement: [əˈmeɪzmənt] n. the feeling that accompanies something extremely surprising

e.g. He looked at me in blank amazement.
